 Season One of Battlefield 2042 has finally landed, and honestly, it feels like the game just got a shot of pure adrenaline. Fit it with a short barrel and subsonic rounds, and it becomes a quiet close-range killer; swap to a long barrel and high-powered ammo, and it is practically a sniper rifle. That kind of flexibility has made it a favourite for many players. There is also the Ghostmaker R10 crossbow – more of a fun, niche weapon that is all about stealth and one-shot kills. It is not going to replace your main gun, but in the right situation, it is a blast to use. The new smoke grenade launcher also adds more tactical options for infantry, whether you are covering teammates or pushing an objective.

But honestly, the most important part of this update is the balance changes. DICE has finally gone after some of the “problem” elements. Veterans will know that Angel used to be able to hand out endless armour plates with his supply crate – that is no longer the case, as it has been nerfed. Boris’s sentry gun is also no longer the 360-degree auto-lock death machine it used to be, with both range and damage reduced. Vehicles have taken a hit too, especially the Little Bird helicopter, whose rockets are no longer brainless spam. All of this makes life a lot better for infantry, and fights feel much less one-sided.

All in all, Season One “Zero Hour” is a strong step in the right direction for Battlefield 2042. It does not fix everything, but it shows that DICE is genuinely trying to get the game back on track. The new content is fun, the balance changes are spot on, and for many long-time players like me, it has brought back a bit of hope.
